The Flower Arranging Committee had an unusual year due to Hurricane Florence.
It changed our game, causing cancellations due to venue unavailability. Our first general meeting in September was cancelled, therefore, a refreshment table arrngement was not required. That said, we were able to resume our schedule in October, and monthly arrangements appreared on the table. Our committee members outdid themseves providing incredible arrangements throughout the rest of the year.
In December, our committee decorated the home of PJ and Allan Middleton for the annual Christmas Tea. We were tasked with decorating a house that had never been decorated by the homeowner; they had just moved in six months prior. We were given pretty much free rein to create our Christmas perceptions for their home. Our members spent two days decorating inside and out with live greenery embellished with all types of items. The end result was a welcoming Christmas vision for our members. As a Committee, we learned a lot and thank the Middletons for the oportunity. They were such a pleasure to work with.
Come February, it was time to work with the Special Events Committee on table arrangements for the Carousel Center’s Annual Fundraiser. Four of our members helped complete this project.
In March, we started working on different projects for the 2019 Azalea Garden Tour. Our largest project was a Fairy Garden at the New Hanover County Arboretum. We used cypress knees to create a whimsical fairy habitat under a tree draped with climbing hydrangea and other natural materials. It was fun to watch the children become engaged in the fantasy of our garden and, when the tour was over, our group won The Peoples’ Choice Award.
For the Garden Tour our Committee made flower arrangements for the Belle Tea, the Ribbon Cutting, the Fairy Garden Hospitality Table, and the Garden Owners’ Luncheon as well as the bouquet for the Queen.
