The Gardening for Wildlife Committee’s mission is to educate the public on how to create a wildlife habitat according to the National Wildlife Federation guidelines. The Gardening for Wildlife Committee (GWC) has been instrumental in both an administrative and participative role with the Native Plant Festival (NPF) held at The New Hanover County Arboretum. Hurricane Florence canceled the 2018 NPF, a festival where we educate participants on how to create a wildlife friendly landscape and help participants create birdhouses. We were still able to use The Arboretum gardens as an educational setting during the Azalea Garden Tour as we constructed and displayed “Gnome Gardens” at the Native Plants Garden. Our theme for our gardens included various wildlife: bees (beekeeper gnomes), fish (fishing gnomes), bunnies and birds.
